Beyond Essential Oils – Supplements – Part 2

farmland In today’s world, it has become increasingly difficult to buy or grow food with all the nutrients that our bodies need. It is so sad that our water, air, and soil have become so polluted and devitalized that even the food grown in the best soils does not contain the same nutritional value that it did even 10 years ago. We have massively depleted our soils, but more importantly, even if you are able to get organic farmer’s market type produce, they are usually picked far before they should be.

Did you know most produce is picked about two weeks before it is ripe? Did you also know that often the most vital phyto-nutrients (plant nutrients) are developed during the last few days of ripening? It is unfortunate, but the reality is, we do not get the right vitamins, minerals, micro mineral, and nutrients in the everyday food sources we eat.

Supplements

Because of this, people are turning more and more to nutritional supplements in the form of tablets, capsules, powders, and liquids. We live in a world where supplementation has become the norm. Supplements are exactly what the word means: to add an extra amount of what we are not getting in our nutrition. Whole food nutrition is the most important aspect to proper health, and the goal is to get as much of that nutrition as possible from what God has created. The reality is, the food sources we currently have access to are very different from those that our grandparents, or even our parents, grew up consuming.

Dietary supplements were not a major thing until the U.S. Congress passed the Dietary Supplement and Health Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994. After that, dietary supplement consumption skyrocketed. In the United States alone, the supplement market is a $31 billion dollar industry. Seventy-six percent (76%) of all adults in the United States take some form of dietary supplement.

In the next several installments, we will specifically talked about using nutritional supplements to keep our bodies in optimum wellness. Let’s all stress the need to take care of ourselves. I will discuss several supplements in more detail with each installment.
